Flint and Steel

1 Day Course

This is a workshop based 1 Day Course,

Although certain elements of it can take place outside,

The course starts at 9,00 am and finishes 5,00 pm on course days, The course fee covers transport to and from local Train Station and Airport on day of commencement and finish day,

Also included in course fee is tea, coffee, biscuits etc 

You will be introduced to 3 or 4 different tinders so that you can compare and see which one is your best performer,

Dont forget you will be taking your full Flint and Steel Kit home with you,

Why not instead of travelling for one day, spend the weekend, build your own Fire Piston or Bow Drill, look at our other fire making courses before making your selection as discounts apply when taking 2 or more together,

Course Content

You will be given a standard Fire and Steel Kit of High Carbon Steel and chards of top quality Flint,

You will learn how to use this item correctly as it produces individual sparks which are low in temperature unlike the modern day manmade rods, which throw hundreds of high temperature sparks,

Anybody can use a modern day rod, but do you have the skill, knowledge and ability to start your fire as fires have been started back through the ages,

Learn the best things to catch your spark and take it to the next level, a glowing ember, Also learn what to put that ember in to take it to a flame,

You will be introduced to various types of Fungi, where to source them, harvest them and dry them etc,

You will also make your own char cotton to take away so you can continue to practise in the privacy of your own home,

Before leaving you handmake a nice leather pouch in which to carry your Fire Steel Flints and tinder,

And we are always at the end of the phone or email for queries of past course participants,

These courses are very restricted in numbers, due to the intensive one on one guidance,

The available dates for this course for you to join in with a small number of other clients are on our dates page, but if there are a couple of you together email your preferred dates, preferably mid-week, Individual tuition is available in extreme cases but course fees may change slightly,
